The International Museum of Surgical Science is a distinctive venue available for special events. Events hosted at the Museum offer guests an elegant setting, interesting exhibits, and breathtaking views of Lake Michigan just minutes from Downtown Chicago. Few other venues offer such an opulent setting as our beautifully preserved early 20th-century mansion. The home was built in 1917 for Eleanor Robinson Countiss.
Origin story
The International Museum of Surgical Science was founded by Dr. Max Thorek and the International College of Surgeons to share knowledge of medical history worldwide. The Museum opened in 1954 with commissioned statues and paintings depicting important scenes in medical history. The Museum acquired donations from countries represented by the College to showcase important cultural and international medical innovations.

The Partial Room Rental includes the Hall of Immortals and the Library rooms. Rental period is during business hours, 10am - 4pm. After hours rental follows full buyout pricing.

Museum Buyout Rental includes all four floors of exhibits open to you and your guests. Event setup is on the 2nd floor. The spaces include the Hall of Murals, Hall of Immortals, Library, and Optical room.
